Start-up

I’ve generally been able to plod my way through the software, but I don’t think I’m using the best methods to create a trip. Is there a simple “how to” YouTube or set of instructions somewhere?
I’m a little frustrated that it seems that waypoints and stops are treated as destinations for calculated mileage between them. Am I missing a difference somewhere?
As it is, if I add sight-seeing stops along the way, the daily mileage gets interrupted and I need to add together the sectional stops to get total daily mileage. The only way to get daily total is to “unroute” the looky-loos along the way.
It seems that if I enter a “waypoint” that should be a break along the way, but a “stop” is an overnight for dating purposes and for mileage purposes.
Right? Wrong?

Hey there, great questions! In Roadtrippers, “waypoint” is just another name for a “stop” and and there are a few different kinds you might see in your trip.

  • Routed waypoints: These are the main building blocks of your trip! Every place you add is a routed waypoint by default - whether that’s an overnight stop, a restaurant for lunch, a quick roadside attractions, etc. They’re included in your driving route and used to calculate drive time and distance.
  • Unrouted waypoints: These are great for keeping track of places you might visit, stops you’ll check out while staying somewhere for a few nights, or anything you don’t want included in the driving estimates. They’re saved on your map and in your itinerary, but won’t affect the route or mileage.
  • Via waypoints: These are created when you drag and drop the route to customize the route on the map. They’re not stops in the traditional sense, but they do shape the route and show up in your trip stats.

Here a couple resources that might be helpful while you’re getting the hang of things:
