Lake Superior Circle Tour

Looking for suggestions for this road trip, planning for mid August. We have accomodations in Grand Marais, but that’s it so far.

Hi! Here’s some articles we’ve published on the UP you might find helpfu!

I took a trip through the UP a few years back. We stayed in Munising to visit Pictured Rocks, which was amazing. We did a boat tour to see the cliffs. We would’ve loved to have done a bunch of hiking too, but it was a little tough with our baby!

On the western side of the UP we spent a couple days at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Definitely worth the stop!

I haven’t had the chance to do the Circle Tour yet, but spent some time RVing between Duluth and Grand Marais a few summers ago - a truly lovely, rustic part of the country! I found Duluth charming, especially the Canal Park area. Spent a few hours watching ships pile up as they waited for the Aerial Lift Bridge to raise for passage. Ship watching here is top notch.

Between Duluth and Grand Marais, in Two Harbors, you’ll find Betty’s Pies. Don’t miss it! We stayed nearby and frequented the spot a few times. During our multiple stops there, we tried several different slices of pie, all of which were fantastic. But what I find myself daydreaming of is their Backpacker Burger - a homemade wild rice and cheddar patty that was so surprisingly delightful.

Haven’t did the Lake Superior circle but want to in the future. We did circle lake Michigan in 2019 and it was awesome. As others have mentioned, some sights we visited in the UP on south side of Superior were Black Rocks at Marquette, Tahquamenon Falls, Shipwreck Museum at Paradise, Pictured Rocks, and Porcupine Mountains. These were all awesome.

I live in Ohio, and way too many people head south instead of north for summer vacations. I’ve loved my trips to Michigan.

We live in Ohio too, and we love Michigan, Sleeping Bear area is one of our favorites, great beaches

Good Morning.
Make sure to take in Lake Superior Provincial Park. There is a hike to some pictographs. The shoreline on the Canadian side is rocky and steep, very different from the Michigan side. Make sure to stop at the Split Rock Lighthouse as well. Safe Travels and fun.
