Day by day 2 week trip - help with days and start/end points

Hi there! I’m new here and like many others, have managed to fiddle my way around my premium subscription to plan a two week, cross-country trip. I want to plan it out day by day. I understand it’s a manual process to delete a day and move stuff from one day to the other, but this whole process is getting tedious fast.

My main question is basic: How do I read the map each day? If I put in my starting point, then say 10 more points, then day one has zero miles since it’s just listing my staring point (this was when I used the “add dates” feature). I guess I need to now drag all my stops up so that day one shows my starting and ending point. But then day two shows just the ending point since day one has the overnight stop. This gets very confusing once I’m into a week or more. Plus, I start getting empty days in my trip which can’t be deleted.

Am I doing this wrong? I’ve been reading and watching videos, but maybe I need some basic help.

Show me how to plan a 5 day trip with 10 stops (assume 5 of those stops are my hotels). Is the first night hotel stop supposed to be on day one along with my starting point? etc.
